At River City Church, we are deeply committed to showing Jesus’ love by addressing the real physical needs of our community. Many people in our neighborhood struggle with houselessness, and we work with Council for the Homeless each winter to transform our building into an overnight shelter. We also open our doors during emergency weather conditions, including extreme heat.

In January 2024, we had an unprecedented opportunity to serve our houseless neighbors during the ice storm emergency. We stayed open 24/7 for 9 days straight, helping over 300 people find warmth and safety (including young children). Thousands of meals were served, countless showers were provided, medical care was given, and we couldn’t have done it without so many amazing volunteers! Several houseless people in Portland died because they didn’t have access to shelters. Thank you to everyone who played a role in saving lives in our neighborhood!

Our Houseless Ministry is dedicated to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need, offering them comfort and support when they need it most. Please contact us if you’d like to get involved!
